A mixed bag.

Last Tuesday Glenn got the news that his "stay of execution" may be cut short. If you remember he was covering for 2 different people -- a paternity leave and a medical leave. Well, the guy who was supposed to have surgery chickened out because he is scared to get cut. He has a hernia though, so not sure how that will actually work...isn't he just putting off the inevitable? So Glenn just had this week left of work. Scary! Yesterday we found out he has until the end of next week and that they are still trying to find something more long-term (and hopefully permanent) for him. Luckily (or unluckily because I'm not really looking forward to it) I can likely step right into full-time employment at my job. Really it is a blessing. Its not often that you could go so easily from 6 hours a week to 40 in the blink of an eye.

And....we got news that we have an offer on the condo!!! We are meeting with our realtor this afternoon to discuss it. As expected in this market it is low. We'll see just how low and if we can make anything work through a counter offer. We were hoping that we were at a price point that would get a closer-to-full-price offer, but in this market I guess you can't be surprised by anything.

Cross your fingers for us please!! We can use good news on both fronts!

Tantrum-y toddler.

Ugh! I fear Beanie is entering the tantrum-y (is that a word? It is now!!) phase. Her newest thing is to shake her pointer finger at you and say "No! No! No!" Sigh, it just screams brattyness (another new word!). Today we were getting ready to head to the park with our friends and she was over the top cranky. Like make-mommy-want-to-pull-out-her-hair cranky. She was screaming bloody murder while I changed her diaper and put on her pants, socks & shoes. I had to use the restroom before we left and she laid out on the floor kicking the door. What the heck? Luckily she was pretty happy once we got outside and she burnt off some energy. Still, she told her little friend "No! No! No!" while she was trying to come down the stairs at the playground.

What happened to my happy little girl? I know she must be cutting some teeth. Finally, I swear these canine teeth have been taking just about forever and a day to come in. But, what's with the brattyness? Makes me feel like I did something wrong. I know she's just screaming out for her independence and wanting to do what she wants when she wants, but still! Its frustrating.

Busy Pandas.

Beanie found the coolest book at the library yesterday. She has a "thing" for Kung Fu Panda (and by thing I mean she would watch it 3x a day every day if she could) so when she saw a panda book at storytime we decided to check it out. I'm taking steps towards getting over my germ library book phobia. Yes, I know its completely irrational but there's something about library books that just gives me the eebie-jeebies. And, yes, I am the nerd who would spend hours on hours doing research in the university library.

Anyways, we were reading the book yesterday when I flipped the page to see "Panda nursing." So cool! I told Beanie I liked the book even more now. I tried to explain how cool it was to Glenn, but he just didn't get it. Said he didn't understand the "breastfeeding lib" (his exact words) stuff. Now I wouldn't exactly describe myself as "breastfeeding lib" but you have to admit most books, toys, etc involve bottle-feeding which yes I know you can pump and feed in a bottle but you know what I'm getting at.

But, come to think of it I probably am "breastfeeding lib." While I don't often nurse-in-public (pretty much never now as we're down to nursing before naps and bedtime for the most part -- except for days like yesterday) I think it is important to protect a woman's right to do so. I think new moms should be supported, educated, and helped with breastfeeding. I wish people didn't think it was odd that I'm still nursing my almost twenty-month-old. So, okay, I am breastfeeding lib. I'm sure Glenn got the idea from my comment that I'd want to get this or similar onesie if we had a boy (to which I got a resounding "no").

So excited!

At the risk of sounding like a total dork, I made a friend.

LOL. I've been feeling pretty lonesome lately. Seems like Beanie and I haven't made any really close friends through my moms group & the couple I have made (through there or wherever) or knew before it just seems like we haven't been able to meet up like I'd hoped. I'm busy, they're busy...its hard! Plus, I seem to keep in better touch with my online mommy friends than my real life ones. Oops!

Well, today Beanie and I headed to the library for storytime. I was "hosting" for my moms group. I say hosting in quotes because there really isn't much hosting to do for a public library storytime. I long for the days when we have a house with room to host a playdate! Anyways, I was wearing my old Huntington Beach sweatshirt (from 2001 when Glenn and I got engaged) and after storytime was over the gal sitting next to me asked if I was from California. No, but it go the conversation rolling! They had just moved here from CA and her daughter is just a bit older than Beanie. I was brave (haha, brave for me) and suggested we should meet at the park sometime. We exchanged phone numbers even. I feel like a dorky kid who made a friend on my first day at a new school (ok, honestly I don't know that experience bc I grew up in the same house all through elementary, junior and high school). I was all smiles headed home and couldn't wait to text Glenn and tell him. Now I just have to be brave again and call!!

Yay for new friendships :)

The peanut butter & jelly incident.

I don't think I've shared this story on here and, honestly, its just too good not to.

Poor Glenn seems to have a terrible time putting Beanie down for her naps when I'm gone at work. Usually only once a week but still, the poor girl does not want to sleep for daddy. Last week she was beyond tired and had put off her nap for waaaay too long. Glenn made her up a pb&j sandwich and put her up in her high chair (which, by the way, I think is about to go to the wayside seeing as she can unbuckle herself and try to climb out!). She was sitting there eating her sandwich looking like a zombie. Glenn kept asking her if she was ok, but there she was eating her sandwich in a daze. She finished what he had given her so he went into the kitchen to grab the rest. He turned around and she was face down on the high chair. He said he immediately freaked out thinking something was wrong. His fear quickly turned to laughter when he figured out the poor kiddo fell asleep face first into her pb&j sandwich. She woke up a bit as he tried to clean off her face, but fell back asleep as he carried her into the room to lay her on the bed for her nap. Poor kiddo. Poor daddy.

My bad.

Ergh, I got an email this morning that I had been declined for membership in a mommy's group that I signed up for through meetup.com. Lame! They screen all their members to make sure you are "real," not some creepy deepy trying to join the group. They want you to come to one of their public events or call and have an interview with the organizer. Well, the events didn't work because they were nighttime mommy-only ones which don't work for me and I've been so busy I didn't get around to calling the organizer! Boohoo.

Sigh. I guess its probably better to stick to the mommy group I am already really involved in and try to join some new ones once we move and things settle down. Still, it sucked getting an email that I had been declined for membership. My bad for dropping the ball :(

I almost forgot!

BBQ for dinner again. It is gorgeous, sunny and maybe mid-40s temperature wise & we are going to have turkey burgers for dinner. Delish!!

I'm here.

Still. Again. Whatever.

I feel like I should be blogging more often, but finding the time has been hard. Its been hard too because I feel like I've been blogging about lots of depressing and down and out stuff, like I've been using my blog to whine and complain and who wants to read that?

We painted the living room this last weekend. I LOVE it. We didn't want to do it at all. It was really dark before so we needed primer, plus the 18ft vaulted ceilings make it a real pain in the ass to paint. It has brightened up the room so much I wish we would've done it sooner. While I did really like the blue paint, it was dark and dreary sometimes, especially in the winter. Not so great for someone who sometimes suffers from seasonal depression and lives in a pretty dreary winter climate. So, yea, I love it now. So open and bright & you don't even really have to have the lights on during the day. And (hopefully) it is more appealing to potential buyers. It has to be. Plus I think it makes the living room, dining room and kitchen area flow better, just opens it up and shows what a large space it really is.

So...pics so you can see what I'm really talking about!!

Sunshine. Blue skies.

It has been gorgeous out the last couple days. Today I think its supposed to be in the upper 50s (although it sure doesn't feel like it!) Beanie and I went for a walk to the park on Monday. She had a blast running around, swinging and going down the slide. Yesterday we went to the drop-in play at the schoolhouse. Lots of fun again. I have a separate blog to write about that, but that'll have to wait for later. We BBQ'd for dinner the last two nights. I am beyond ready for spring. I hope this is the start of it; what did the groundhog say anyway?
